In the present day, we humans are using a lot of chemicals
in agriculture to grow the crop rapidly and we are also using the chemical on
the food that we make in the restaurants. Junk food contains many harmful
chemicals that can affect the body of the human being. The chemicals only
extend the life of the food and avoid it from decomposition but we have to
remember that we are also consuming the chemicals. So we need to prevent the
food from the biological, physical, and chemical hazards. So here to prevent
these hazards mentioned above, the HACCP was introduced.
So let's learn about the HACCP in details.
#What is HACCP?
The HACCP is the abbreviation of Hazard Analysis and
Critical Control Points. It was started during the second world war because the
army needed safe food to eat so that they can fight with their opponents. But
this process was not published in the market for the local people. Later in
1960, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) produced safe
food with the help of the Pillsbury company for space flights using the method
of HACCP. And thereafter, the method of HACCP was also used for the public
sectors.
In 2002, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collaborated
with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to make the HACCP
process mandatory for the businesses and organizations that are willing to
start any food-related business. The HACCP has seven principles and that is;
Conduct a Hazard Analysis, Identify the Critical Control Points, Establish
Critical Limits, Monitor CCP, Establish Corrective Action, Verification, and
Record-Keeping.
#How does the HACCP process work?
To understand better, we will take an example of milk, when
we buy the milk from the shop, it is raw and it may contain bacteria that can
harm our body. So it is a hazard and the various types of hazards are analyzed
in this process. To make it safe, the food should be cooked. Hence we will heat
the milk and make it safe by heating at a safe temperature. And then we will
point out the measures that we had taken in the HACCP process. This is a home
example but in the industries, many processes are done on the raw products to
make it safe and consumable for the people.
Conclusion
If you have applied for FDA (Food and Drug Administration)
then you have to follow the HACCP process in your organization to avoid the
hazards that can cause the common people. By applying the HACCP process, you
are improving the quality of the raw products and making it consumable to eat.
