FSSAI mandates the food companies to
display the expiry dates on the food products
We consume
many food products just by checking the quotes "best before six
months" and we believe that the product is safe and consumable. So to
avoid the risks and unsafety of the food products, the FSSAI has announced an
ordered to display the exact expiry date on the food products.
The Latest Announcement of the FSSAI
regarding Food Products:-
- The
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) now mandates the food
companies to display the expiry dates rather than "best before date".
- It
also announced the nutritional information should be in a bigger font size and
make sure that name of the food is on the front of the pack.
- The
information about vegetarian and non-vegetarian should be categorized in
specific symbols in front of the food product packet and that effect we will
see from January 1, 2022.
Industry Concerns: -
According
to the Juvenile Justice Act, the companies have no right to expose the age of
the children that are working in their marketing advertisements.
A Senior
Industry Executive said that "The age of the children does not show any
relevancy or sense to the foods products marketing and it does show any logic
of exposing the ages of the children, so if it happens then the given company
have to re-design their marketing strategies".
The
Industrialists also have raised concerns for the bigger size of the alphabets
and numerals as stated in the norms of the "Principal Display Panel".
Calorific Values: -
The FSSAI
under the process to set rules for the color-coded labels to categorize the
information about how much fat, salt, and sugar added in these food products.
This information is also on in front of the pack.
FSSAI also
says that the Restaurants and cafes running with a central license have a need
to mentioned calorific value on their menu cards and booklets. these rules also
are applicable to food business operators that run online.
FSSAI also
says to display the average calorific values on the booklets, menu cards, and
boards as "An average adult requires 2000 kcal energy per day, however,
the calories need according to the person may vary". These rules are
mandatory for e-commerce businesses that are operating their business in India.
The
Labelling prohibitions has also put by the FSSAI for the products of packaged
drinking water and edible oils., For example, the companies cannot put claims
that they are preventive, curative, and alleviative.
The
"best before six months" cannot exactly define that it is safe to
consume for the specified time so it is necessary for the packaging food
companies to display the proper expiry date of the food products.
Conclusion:-
The blog
explains the rules that are imposed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority
of India (FSSAI) on the Food Packaging Industries and orders them to display
